A two-year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service is facing assault charges.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Hamilton Police Service. The officer was arrested Sunday and charged with two counts of assault.

"The reported incidents occurred between January 2019 and October 2019 in Hamilton and in Kitchener," according to WRPS.

The officer was a patrol constable with the north division. Police say they are not releasing the officer's name or other details to protect the identity of the victim.

The officer has been suspended with pay, as per the Police Services Act of Ontario, police say, and will appear in a Hamilton courtroom on Oct. 16, 2020.
