Waterloo likely to vote on casino issue in March

Waterloo council will have a preliminary vote 'probably by the end of March' on whether to hold public consultations on a potential casino in the city, says Mayor Brenda Halloran.

Waterloo council will have a preliminary vote 'probably by the end of March' on whether to hold public consultations on a potential casino in the city, says Mayor Brenda Halloran.

"We're not finding there's any interest within the City of Waterloo," Halloran told CBC's Craig Norris on The Morning Edition Wednesday.

"People don't see a casino as a good fit for the City of Waterloo."

Halloran has repeatedly expressed her opposition to a casino in the city.

The Waterloo council vote is prompted by Woolwich Township council voted last week to try to develop a casino within its borders.
