The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is dealing with over $10,000 in damages after one of its elementary schools was broken into.

Waterloo regional police said someone broke into St. Luke Elementary School on Chesapeak Drive in Waterloo sometime between July 8 and July 11.

According to a police statement, significant damage was done to solar panels on the school's roof.

Because the damage has exposed live electrical current, solar company technicians have said there is a safety concern and are working to replace the damaged panels.

According to a tweet by the school, the panels were installed in 2015.
