Man found dead in Kitchener home, SIU investigating
Officers were unable to make contact with the man, learned through investigation he was dead
A 69-year-old man is dead after a woman in a Kitchener home called police over concerns for his safety Tuesday morning. The province's Special Investigations Unit is now investigating.
A woman called police from a residence on Tilley Court in Kitchener's east end around 4 a.m. and she "had some concerns about the safety of the male in the residence," Insp. Mike Haffner told CBC News.
A number of officers responded, including the emergency response unit, and tried to make contact with the man inside the home.
"Unfortunately, we did not make contact with the male," Haffner said.
Monica Hudon of the SIU said officers entered the home at 10 a.m. and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two schools in the area were placed under hold and secure orders, but those were lifted by 11 a.m.
Officers were speaking with the woman who made the call. She was uninjured, Haffner said.
The Special Investigations Unit investigates reports involving police when there's a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
