Kitchener casino vote coming this month
Kitchener council will begin the process later this month of officially deciding whether it wants to pursue a casino in the city, says Mayor Carl Zehr.
"This question will be coming to our Kitchener council later this month," Zehr told CBC's Craig Norris on the Morning Edition Monday morning.
"There has been a request [to discuss the casino issue]. We said that whenever there is a request, a formal request, we will discuss that matter. And at this point in time, I don't know where that will go with Kitchener."
He noted there will be some public consultations.
The first step later this month will be a process question about the casino, he said. It's possible that at that point, council could decide it isn't interested in a casino at all, he said.
His comments come after Woolwich Township council voted last week in favour of trying to bring a casino to the municipality.
