Elderly Kitchener man hit by car, thrown from scooter, suffers head injuries

An 79-year-old Kitchener man was ejected from his scooter yesterday afternoon, suffering serious head injuries after an 81-year-old woman hit him as he was crossing Wellington Street N.

A 79-year-old Kitchener man on a mobility scooter suffered serious head injuries after driver hit him as he was crossing Wellington Street N in Kitchener yesterday afternoon.

Police said he was thrown from his scooter and was taken to a local hospital.

"Because of his injuries, the seriousness of his injuries, he was later transferred to Hamilton," Cherri Greeno, media relations coordinator for the Waterloo Regional Police Service, told CBC News.

She said the current condition of the man is unknown.

Police identified the driver as a 81-year-old Kitchener woman. She was turning left onto Wellington Street N. when she hit the man.

Police have not released details about the woman or man as the investigation is currently on-going, but officers are asking for witnesses to contact the police or crime stoppers to assist the investigation.
