Kate's 5 fun things to do this weekend (July 12-14)

Music lovers will have to pick and choose what to do this weekend with Hillside Festival, Kultrún World Music Festival, Waterluke and a junk music jam all on tap.

Take a cruise down Kitchener's King Street and enjoy music at Kultrún

It should be a hot, summery weekend in Waterloo region and there is much to do, so fill up your water bottle, grab the sunscreen and get out of the house.

Hillside Festival is all weekend long at Guelph Lake Conservation Area. There's Cruising on King Friday night in downtown Kitchener. There's also Merchant of Venice as part of Shakespeare in the Park in Elora this weekend and a meditation walk near the Pioneer Memorial Tower Sunday morning.

If you feel like taking a bit of a drive, you could head to the village of Paisley where Artists on the River is taking place on Saturday.

As well, if you're a runner and looking for someone else to run with, there's a group run in Victoria Park every Saturday morning. It's free and everyone starts at the Boathouse at 9 a.m. Organizers just ask you register before you arrive.

There's also an opening concert Friday at TheMuseum with Newen Afro Beat.

Kitchener Market, 300 King St. E., Kitchener

Join the city's artist in residence Mary Neil as she asks for the community's help to come up with a piece of music. In particular, this piece will focus on the importance of the market to people.

Mary Neil founded KW Junk Music. She's this year's artist in residence in Kitchener and she wants to make music accessible to everyone using items diverted from the landfill. (CBC Arts)

More music in uptown Waterloo and this time, it's with ukuleles. Hosted by Waterloo Public Library, this event will include a maker activity and live performances. There's also sing-a-longs, food trucks, baloon making and, organizers say, some surprises. This event is brought to you by the same folks who do Summer Lights.
