From world music to lanterns on a river, there's plenty to do this weekend
It'll feel like fall in and around Waterloo region this weekend.
You may want to go pumpkin picking to get the best gourd for your jack-o-lantern or head out for a hike to see the changing leaves before they all fall to the ground.
Do not be alarmed if you see zombies in downtown Kitchener this weekend. Saturday is the 10th annual Kitchener Zombie Walk, starting at The Accelerator Centre at 44 Gaukel St. at noon. There's also a zombie prom on Friday night.
As well, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest wraps up this weekend, which includes barrel racing in uptown Waterloo on Saturday.
Flavours of the World Music Festival
6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12

On The Grand, 425 Bingeman's Centre Dr., Kitchener
Musicians from around the world and here in Canada, including Jully Black (see her video below) will perform at this festival which will also include food trucks and carnival games.
Berlin Flea Market
8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14
Breithaupt Community Centre
This new event will feature a book and clothing swap, crafters, upcyclers and enjoy some fish and chips from the food truck. Check out the buskers, too.
Holy Smokes Music Festival
7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12
12 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, Oct. 13
Various locations, Guelph
This music festival in downtown Guelph locations will feature a variety of performances, including some intimate spaces. The Big Shiny Fundraiser at Ebar will see proceeds go to the Guelph Girls Rock Camp 2019. That event includes Frosted Pits, "a Big Shiny Tunes 1 and 2 cover band." Also, check out the comedy show at The Making Box Friday night.
Butter Tarts and Buggie's Fall Frolic
9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13
9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14
Take a self-guided driving tour through Wellington county and sample some sweet treats. Some of the locations will have wagon rides, mazes, crafts, apple cider, and, of course, butter tarts.
Head to Stratford
There are two different events in Stratford that sound like a lot of fun.
The Springworks Indie Theatre and Arts Festival is on all weekend and includes one-person shows, dance performances and the play The Tom and Gertie Letters Project. There's also a meet and greet with festival presenters on Saturday night.
Then there's the Lantern Parade Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m. It's a stroll along the riverbank starting at the tom Patterson island and release a wish lantern down the river. There's a reception at Market Square with a free screening of Kubo and the Two Strings.
