Section of Iron Horse Trail closes Monday for major upgrades

A section of the Iron Horse Trail will be closed for the next four months as crews work on several improvements on the trail. Work on the trail will begin June 24 between Queen Street South and Ottawa Street South.

A section of the Iron Horse Trail in Kitchener will be closed for several months as it gets some major upgrades.

The section between Queen Street S. and Ottawa Street S. will be closed from June 24 until sometime in October. 

The City of Kitchener says the trail will receive work based on public feedback to improve it, such as:

  • Wider paved surfaces.
  • A large roadway crossing.
  • Pedestrian lighting.
  • Line painting.
  • Adding more seating and garbage cans.

The city says alternative routes can be taken along David Street to Whitney Place and Courtland Avenue.

A second detour can be taken along Courtland Avenue connecting to Borden Avenue and Nyberg Street.
