From horse and buggies to light rail transit — staff with the Region of Waterloo have created a feature-length documentary looking at this change in the community.

The film, called Growing Up: The Story of ION Light Rail in Waterloo Region, will be released in 2019, but a three-minute trailer was released Monday morning.

You can watch it here:

TJ Flynn manager of community relations for ION, said the film is made in-house by a small team of staff.

In a release about the trailer, regional Coun. Tom Galloway said the LRT is a major part of the region's story "and this documentary captures that narrative."

The LRT will not begin operation until spring 2019. Testing of the LRT vehicles is ongoing, as is training for staff who will run the vehicles.
