Two men charged with historical sexual assaults at Christian day school, church
Former teacher and pastor from Guelph-Eramosa Township school charged
A former pastor and the current principal of a Christian day school near Guelph have been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting minors in the 1980s.
Wellington Ontario Provincial Police say officers determined through an investigation that the alleged offences against minors took place at the Elora Road Christian Fellowship Church and the Elora Road Christian School – which are located on the same property in the same building – between 1981 and 1986.
The former founder and pastor of the church, who is now 80 years old, has been charged with the sexual assault of a child under 16. He is scheduled to appear in a Guelph courtroom on Feb. 14.
A 66-year-old man, who is currently the principal at the school but was a teacher when the alleged assaults took place, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16. He is to appear in a Guelph courtroom on Jan. 31.
On the school's website, the Elora Road Christian School is described as an "evangelical Christian day school for children in junior kindergarten through Grade 8. As Christian educators our desire is to see each child develop Christ-like character and Christian faith."
The church and school are located about 10 km north of Guelph.
