Guelph man charged after posing as Uber driver

A 35-year-old Guelph driver is in hot water after police say he lost his cool when ride-sharing passengers he was transporting refused to pay high fees.

Police called after driver threw water bottle when his fares refused to pay

A 35-year-old Guelph man is facing charges after police allege he posed as an Uber driver. 

Two women leaving a downtown restaurant accepted a ride from a man claiming to be an Uber driver in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to police. 

They agreed on a set price, but when he delivered them to their destination he asked for more money. 

The women refused and paid him the original price they had agreed upon. 

Police say the driver became upset at this point and threw a water bottle, smashing a front window in a Victoria Road home. 

At this point, the women called police. Based on their description, officers were able to find him quickly. 

A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with mischief and picking up passengers for compensation without proper authority.
