Drunk driving charges laid after golf cart hits minivan near Belwood

One passenger of a minivan was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the van collided with a golf cart just south of the village of Belwood Sunday evening.

A 22-year-old Guelph man is facing a drunk driving charge after a golf cart collided with a minivan near Belwood on Sunday.

Police say at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, the golf cart was travelling on Wellington Road 19 in front of the Highland Pines Campground just south of Belwood.

The minivan was travelling eastbound when the golf cart crossed in front it and they collided, police said.

"While speaking with the male operator of the golf cart, police determined that he was under the influence of alcohol," Wellington OPP said in a release.

The man failed a roadside screening device test and was arrested, police added.

A female passenger in the van was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the golf cart has been charged with having more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
