Guelph police have confirmed that they are treating the death of a 61-year-old woman as a homicide.

Police discovered the woman inadvertently on Tuesday morning when they went to a red-brick home at 1541 Gordon St. S. to look for a male regarding an unrelated issue.

An officer spotted the deceased woman inside the house.

The decision to investigate the death as a homicide stems from the results of a post-mortem examination that was conducted in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Police have now arrested the man they sought earlier. They say he cannot be ruled out as a person of interest in the woman's death.

Police haven't released the cause of the woman's death, or any other information pertaining to her death in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
