Getting diagnosed is the first step in coping with ADHD as an adult, according to comedian Rick Green.

"It's everything I wish I would have known," he told The Morning Edition's Craig Norris. Green wasn't diagnosed with the disorder until he was in his 40s.

The Renison University College alumnus will share many other tips like that at "Earning a Degree with ADHD" hosted by the University of Waterloo on Oct. 17.

His talk is part of a full week of activities at the university designed to raise awareness about mental, neurological or physical conditions that are not immediately recognizable by an onlooker.

"Invisible Disabilities Week" will run from Oct 16 till Oct 20.
