The driver of a transport truck has been charged with careless driving after a crash Wednesday morning which caused major delays through Cambridge during rush hour.

The driver lost control in the heavy rain and hit a concrete median, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt tweeted. The cab of the truck and front part of the trailer went over the concrete median onto the grass on the other side.

Two lanes had to be closed due to a fuel spill.

The driver was not injured.

The crash caused major delays during the rush hour commute on the 401 for about 10 km and also on Highway 8 from around Sportsworld Drive to the 401 on ramp.

Const. Lauren Ball said the highway is expected to reopen at 10 a.m. after the fuel is cleaned up and the concrete wall is fixed.
