Cambridge man taken to Hamilton hospital after basement fire

Fire crews responded to a call in the Preston area of Cambridge Sunday, rescuing a man from a burning basement apartment. He was transferred to a Hamilton Hospital with serious injuries.

A Cambridge man was taken to a Hamilton hospital with serious injuries after firefighters rescued him from a burning basement apartment Sunday. 

Fire crews responded to the home in Preston and were able to pull the man out of the burning basement unit where he was living. Initially he was taken to a Cambridge hospital but then transferred to Hamilton due to his injuries.

The fire is believed to have broken out in the basement. The home owner, who lived on the top floor, escaped with no injuries. 

The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
