The Better Business Bureau is warning people in Kitchener and Toronto about a suspected scam involving three repair companies they say are duping unsuspecting customers.

Since the beginning of 2018, the BBB has received over 200 complaints about Appliance Repair Guys, Appliance Repairman and Appliance Repair Team, three businesses all registered to the same address in Concord, Ont.

According to the BBB, customers were told that a service call would cost $80, an amount that then increased to $300 once the service technician arrived. They also reported that once the work began, the repair itself would quickly escalate in price.

The BBB said that customers reported repairs done were ineffective, and the appliance they called about was still not working.

The BBB said they have attempted to contact the company, but they "appear to be unwilling to participate in [their] process."

CBC News reached out to Appliance Repair Guys, Appliance Repairman and Appliance Repair Team for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
