Beer bottles thrown at police at rowdy Waterloo homecoming party
Waterloo Regional police officers were assailed with dozens of beer bottles and cans when trying to break up a homecoming party of about 1,000 people at State Street and Fir Street around 10:30 pm on Saturday.
A 19-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with assaulting police with a weapon. The alleged weapon was a beer bottle.
Police said it took 43 officers one hour to disperse the crowd. Many vehicles, including police vehicles, were damaged by beer bottles and cans.
No injuries were reported, police said.
Police initially said the man who was arrested was a Wilfrid Laurier University student. However, the university later confirmed that the man was not a student there.
