Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his family have found a purrrfect name for their adopted cat: Stanley.

The cuddly grey tabby's name topped a poll on Harper's official Facebook page that reflects the Vancouver Canucks' chase for the NHL title.

"Stanley is the winning name! Thank you to those who voted," the Facebook announcement Tuesday reads.

The Canucks lead the best-of-seven Stanley Cup final 2-1 entering Game 4 on Wednesday night.

Stanley garnered nearly 5,000 votes in the poll that closed Monday. Other top choices included Smokie and Vingt-quatre (24, in French, which is the street number for the prime minister's official Sussex Drive residence in Ottawa).

The Harpers, who have other cats in their household, adopted Stanley from the Ottawa Humane Society.

"We encourage everyone to adopt their animals from the many wonderful animal shelters across the country," they say on Facebook.

The poll attracted hundreds of commenters on the PM's social networking site page.

Rob Inverarity, one of the many posters reacting to the winning name, said: "love it! great timing even better name!"

Sierra Shelby added an "lol," and noted: "stanley is a canadian name and a proud one. hence bring our other stanley home boys."
