Wentworth Stairs, part of Sherman Access closed until fall
Police say both the stairs and the west leg of the access will be closed until November
The city says that the Wentworth Stairs and the west leg of the Sherman Access will close on Tuesday, and won't reopen until November.
The west leg of the Sherman Access will be closed from the bottom of the Sherman Cut to Charlton Ave East, so crews can reconstruct the retaining structures along the roadway.
Downbound traffic coming off the Claremont Access will still be able to get to the bottom of the west leg of the Sherman Access to Charlton Avenue East over the construction period. The east leg of the Sherman Access will remain open unless the city says otherwise.
The entire length of the Wentworth Stairs are also closing to allow crews to work on the footings at the base of the stairs and do proactive work to alleviate erosion along the footpath beside the stairs.
"The city thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation as we work to ensure continued public safety along the escarpment roadways," the city said in a statement.
