82-year-old dies after being hit by truck, Welland man charged: police

The female pedestrian was crossing the road at the intersection of Barton Street East and Lottridge Street on Nov. 20 when she was allegedly struck as the 41-year-old man made a left turn onto Barton.

Investigators previously said speed, drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash

A Welland man has been charged with careless driving, police say, in connection with a Nov. 20 collision where an 82-year-old woman was hit by a truck and later died.

The female pedestrian was crossing the road at the intersection of Barton Street East and Lottridge Street when she was allegedly struck as the 41-year-old man made a left turn onto Barton.

The woman was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries. On Dec. 20, according to police, she died.

Investigators previously said speed, drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash.
