Hamilton-born actress Kathleen Robertson is set to star in a new U.S. murder mystery series.

American network TNT cast Robertson as homicide detective Hildy Mulligan in Murder in the First. The series will debut during the fall pilot season.

Robertson, who is best known for portraying Clare Arnold in Beverly Hills, 90210 in the 1990s, is cast along with American actor and Private Practice alum Taye Diggs. He will play Robertson's detective partner.

The drama focuses on two high-profile murder cases, the police investigation and the arrest and trial of suspects. Robertson's character is a fearless detective and a divorced mother to a young daughter.

Robertson attended Hillfield Strathallan College, a private school on the Mountain, when she lived in Hamilton. She recently appeared in CBC TV police drama Cracked as an assault victim.

TV fans will also be able to see Hamilton-native Martin Short on the small screen in the fall. He's set to play a game show host on an unnamed NBC comedy pilot.
