Ontario Provincial Police say they are investigating after someone poured syrup into a car's gas tank in Simcoe on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a news release, police were called to a home on Mackay Avenue just before 4:15 p.m.

Const. Ed Sanchuk told CBC News that the owner realized something was wrong with her vehicle and took it to her dealership, which verified that syrup was poured into the gas tank.

Sanchuk could not say if the syrup was maple or not.

"If anyone is found committing acts of mischief, appropriate charges will be laid," the police news release reads.

It's unclear how much damage the syrup did to the car.
