Things to do over the St. Patrick's Day weekend in Hamilton
St. Patrick's Day returns this weekend, and it's also the one before school resumes after March Break. Celebrate the Irish holiday with a number of community events, some sports and live music at an old Irish pub.
St. Patrick's Day Party (families welcome)

Bring your kids (but not your pets) to Shawn & Ed Brewing to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with live Irish music, Jonny Blonde's food truck, and of course, craft beer.
Special winter exhibit: Frogs!
Royal Botanical Gardens
10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., March 17
Catch the special winter exhibit at RBG featuring frogs this Saturday. Start the day with a Ribbit Relay for the kids, meet some of Ontario's amphibians and frogs before lunch and finish the Saturday with a Discovery Show.
Hammer Style Pop-up Market
294 James Street North, Hamilton

The pop-up market returns for its second month this year at the Evergreen Hamilton Community Storefront. Besides a variety of vendors selling everything from comics to beard wax, there will be live shows, a carnival game and appetizers.
SpringTide Bulb Show
Gage Park Greenhouse
9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until March 18
Get a preview of spring at Gage Park. The construction for the tropical house isn't finished but the show is still on! Go for a leisurely stroll through the gardens. There's also a children's zone. Admission is free but donations for Hamilton Food Share are accepted.
2018 U Sports Men's Volleyball Championship
Department of Athletics and Recreation at McMaster University
Starts 1 p.m., March 16
Watch university volleyball athletes battle it out for the 2018 U Sports Championship starting 1 p.m. on Friday. Semifinals start Saturday 6 p.m. and the gold medal game is happening at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
McMaster University will be playing University of Montreal at 6 p.m. for the quarterfinal game. Other universities competing are Trinity Western University, University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, University of Windsor, Queen's University and University of New Brunswick.
Maple Syrup Festival
1049 Kirkwall Road, Hamilton
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 18
It's time to tap into maple trees again. Westfield Heritage Village is opening its doors for the third time this March for people to learn about the tree-to-table process for maple syrup production. The festival will continue until Good Friday.
Disney On Ice
Starts 3 p.m., March 17
Watch Moana's debut on ice this Saturday and her journey to save her island. But that's not all -- Elsa, Rapunzel, Belle and Cinderella will also be there. We also can't forget the hosts Mickey and Minnie.
