On one of the last nights of her life, Sheryl Sheppard accepted a marriage proposal from Michael Lavoie on live TV. Two days later, she was never seen again.

Now the latest episode of the CBC podcast Someone Knows Somethingfocuses on that fated proposal on New Year's Eve 1997.

Sheppard, a Hamilton resident, was 29 when she vanished around Jan. 2, 1998. Her disappearance is now one of Hamilton's most infamous cold cases. Someone Knows Something aims to shed light on what happened.

Monday's episode of the investigative podcast leads listeners to Mike Richards, who hosted the live TV broadcast on CHCH-TV of the New Year's party. It also scrutinizes the footage of that night in the exhaustive search for clues.

The episode also uncovers allegations that Lavoie was physically abusive, and tracks down some eye witnesses to their relationship.

David Ridgen, host of the podcast, told CBC Hamilton in November that every episode reveals a little more.

"It's very interesting how information can be shaken out of those memories," he said.
