Police are investigating an overnight shooting that saw a 26-year-old show up at a Hamilton hospital with an injury believed to have been caused by a gun.

Investigators received several reports of gunfire near the intersection of Garth Street and Limeridge Road West around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a media release.

Police say they found evidence to confirm a shooting had taken place and secured the area.

A short time later, a man with a non-life-threatening injury police say was likely caused by a firearm showed at a hospital. His vehicle also showed evidence a shooting had happened and was seized by investigators.

Detectives say they believe the shooting was targeted.

They're continuing to investigate and are asking residents in the area where the shooting happened to check surveillance cameras and report any suspicious activity to police.
