St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton has a new COVID-19 outbreak
Satellite Health Facility closed to admissions and visitors
A new outbreak has been declared at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton on the sixth floor of its Satellite Health Facility.
As of Saturday, data from the city shows that six patients and one staff member have tested positive for the virus.
The patients have been transferred to the COVID-19 unit at its Charlton campus, according to a media release. The staff member is self-isolating at home.
The unit is closed for admissions and to visitors. All staff and patients on the floor have been swabbed for COVID-19, the release said.
The two outbreaks affecting the clinical teaching units at the Chartlon campus were declared as over last week. Both units were closed to new patients over the last two weeks, but were reopened for admissions.
St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is monitoring the situation, along with Hamilton Public Health.
The outbreak at its Charlton campus's 5MG Unit is still ongoing. Three patients have been infected, says the city. The outbreak at Charlton campus's 6 surgical unit is also ongoing, and includes one patient and three staff with COVID-19.
Hamilton Health Sciences outbreaks
Other outbreaks affecting hospital systems in the city include Hamilton Health Sciences's Juravinski Hospital. One outbreak affects its E3 unit, where 22 patients and six staff have the virus. Six people have died.
Its F4 unit also has an outbreak, where eight patients and seven staff have tested positive. The latest outbreak at its E4 unit has three staff who tested positive.
Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is currently experiencing four other outbreaks.
Sixteen staff from Hamilton General Hospital's Unit 5 West have the virus. The emergency department also has seven staff with the virus.
Forty-seven people associated with the alternate health facility third floor outbreak contracted COVID-19, of which 25 are patients and 22 are staff.
The second floor outbreak has infected 22 people, including 11 patients and 11 staff. One person has died.
