Police are searching for someone who stole metal nozzles attached to fire hoses in two central Hamilton apartment buildings.
According to a news release, someone stole the nozzles from 123 Charlton Avenue East and 100 Forest Avenue sometime on Saturday night.
Police and the fire department say they are reminding people to check on the status of their fire safety gear.
"These types of thefts are putting the lives of people at risk in the event of a fire emergency," the news release reads.
Hamilton fire spokesperson Claudio Mostacci said that the fire department has seen these kinds of thefts occasionally in the past — but added that it's very dangerous.
"Every minute delay that firefighters face, a fire grows in intensity," he said.
