Woman, 20, dead in Niagara Falls rollover, man charged with impaired driving
Niagara Regional Police say the early morning crash left 3 people with minor injuries
A 20-year-old woman is dead and three other people were slightly injured after a vehicle rolled and landed on its roof in a ditch in Niagara Falls, Ont., early Sunday.
The driver, a 22-year-old man of Welland, Ont., has been charged with impaired driving causing death. He is due to appear in court on Monday.
Niagara Regional Police received a call around 2:15 a.m. about the single vehicle rollover on Biggar Road, west of Montrose Road in the Chippawa area, according to a news release.
Four people were in the vehicle at the time.
Police believe a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was travelling westbound on Biggar Road when the driver allegedly lost control. The vehicle left the roadway and hit a number of trees before coming to rest on its roof in the ditch on the road's north side.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other people, including the driver, were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Niagara police Staff Sgt. David Shennan said investigators believe the road was dry at the time of the crash.
"It appears that speed may be an issue," he said.
The coroner's office and detectives are still investigating the crash.
