Man hits cyclist in careless driving incident, police say
A Hamilton cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Friday after he was struck by a car in southwest Hamilton.
It happened around 6:50 p.m., police say, when a group of cyclists was stopped at a traffic light on Aberdeen Avenue by Hawthorne Avenue waiting to make a left turn.
A car that was headed east on Aberdeen drove towards them and for “reasons unknown” didn’t avoid the group, police say. A man in his 40s was hit and was seriously injured.
Alcohol wasn’t a factor in the collision, police say. The 70-year-old driver was charged with careless driving.
