Hamilton woman defrauded elderly relative of $105K
A 40-year-old Hamilton woman has been convicted of defrauding an elderly relative of $105,000 over several months.
Teresa Rosko has been sentenced to one year in jail and ordered to pay restitution of the stolen amount, Hamilton Police Services say.
The theft happened over several months starting in 2010, police say. The crimes against seniors unit conducted a lengthy investigation in 2011 into allegations of theft by power of attorney.
Police arrested Rosko in 2011, and she was convicted in November 2014. She was sentenced on Jan. 26.
Police have the following advice on power of attorney:
- Don’t feel pressured to sign a power of attorney or will.
- Get legal advice before signing any documents.
