Slide the City event scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29 cancelled

Slide the City's giant outdoor waterslide event slated for the end of August in Hamilton has been cancelled.

Though the event had crossed major hurdles like getting approved for a road closure permit, organizers couldn't get every approval needed from different agencies in time to open up registration early enough to make it viable.

"I did really want it to happen," said Mark Gowland, who was working as the local point person with the company's organizers. "I was pretty crushed, honestly. But tomorrow's another day."

According to city spokesperson Ann Lamanes, the city was waiting on licenses, a completed public health package, payment of fees and proof of general liability insurance of $5 million.
