‘Distraught’ man found dead after police negotiations

A distraught man in an east end townhouse who spent hours negotiating with police was found dead Wednesday night.

A "distraught" 41-year-old man who spent hours negotiating with police was found dead in an east end townhouse Wednesday night.

Officers were called to a home on Woodman Drive North by Queenston Road around 5:30 p.m., according to a Special Investigations Unit news release. Members of the police emergency response unit attempted to speak with the man, but talks broke off.

Officers entered the house at around 10 p.m., only to find the man dead of an apparent gunshot wound. The SIU has assigned two investigators and two forensic investigators to the case. 

The SIU investigates any incidents involving police when there has been a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
