3 new Ontario songs you need to hear this week
Check out brand new music from Whoop-Szo, Her Harbour and Diana
Every day, musicians write, record and release new music in Ontario. On CBC Radio One's In the Key of C, we try to highlight some of our favourites each week.
You can hear the show live every Saturday evening at 5 p.m. ET on CBC Radio One in Ontario. In the Key of C can be heard across the province, except for in the GTA. Hamilton listeners can hear the segment in the player above.
Whoop-Szo: Another Show
"Rock and roll, when you gonna soothe my soul?"
There's a question for the ages, and the kind of refrain that feels timeless.
It could feel trite, but Whoop-Szo nails it with an earnest kind of relatability that cries out to be sung in unison.
Her Harbour: Hewing Crowns
When it's just you and a piano, there's nowhere to hide your imperfections.
Luckily for us, Her Harbour's Hewing Crowns doesn't really have any.
It might feel slightly hyperbolic to say there's a bravery to a track like this, but it's rare to find something so pure. It's as picturesque as it is haunting.
Diana: What You Get
This is from Diana's new album Familiar Touch, which drops next month.
In a lot of ways, this reminds me of newer Stars stuff — Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan would sound right at home here.
The vibe here is extremely chilled out, in a way that makes repeated listens easy.
