Michelle Obama is coming to Hamilton in October, and tickets go on sale Thursday.

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce will host the former first lady on Oct. 11 at FirstOntario Centre.

The chamber "is thrilled to be able to bring former First Lady Michelle Obama to Hamilton," said Keanin Loomis, the chamber's president and CEO. "Her message of a renewed sense of purpose, passion and energy will resonate in all corners of our community."

Obama has had a number of speaking dates following the release of her book Becoming. She's married to former U.S. president Barack Obama, and was the country's first lady from 2009 to 2017.

In that role, she led four initiatives: Let's Move!, which addressed childhood obesity; Joining Forces, which supported veterans and their families; Reach Higher, which encouraged youth to seek higher education, and Let Girls Learn, aimed at helping adolescent girls around the world go to school.

The event will be at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, June 20 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.ca.
