1 man arrested and 1 man wanted in mid-December Mountain stabbing of Michael Ivo White
42-year-old Michael Ivo White was found on the road with multiple stab wounds, police said
Hamilton police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another after a mid-December stabbing on the Mountain.
A 59-year-old Hamilton man was arrested Wednesday near Upper James Street and Rymal Road and charged with the first-degree murder of 42-year-old Michael Ivo White, police say.
White was the city's 17th homicide victim of 2020.
Police said they received a 911 call during the morning of Dec. 13 about reports of a stabbing near East 27th Street and Concession Street on the Mountain, right across from Juravinski Hospital on the Mountain.
Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk told reporters White was found on the road and had multiple stab wounds. He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.
Police said the suspects were last seen travelling south from the scene in a blue or dark coloured SUV-style vehicle described as a blue Kia cube, which officers believe they have located.
Bereziuk said it was found in the south Mountain area, which wasn't near the crime scene.
White was known to police, Bereziuk said, and faced prior charges.
One 'armed and dangerous' man wanted
The man police are still looking for was previously labelled as "armed and dangerous" after an assault on the same weekend.
Officers said that attack took place on 825 Concession St., an apartment building on the Mountain.
The suspect held a victim against her will and assaulted her with a weapon in what they believe was a targeted attack, police said.
Const. Krista-Lee Ernst previously said other assaults occurred in the same time frame, prompting them to release a warning about the suspect.
Police previously said the suspect was not involved in White's death but now have an arrest warrant out for him.
The man, 29, is roughly six feet tall and 163 pounds. He faces four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of failing to comply with probation, one count of forcible confinement and one count of uttering death threats.
