Starting Tuesday, the southbound King Street East off-ramp on the Red Hill Valley Parkway will be closed for five weeks so repairs can be made.

The city says it's closing the ramp to safely complete permanent repairs to the structure of the bridge.

Drivers are being advised to detour around the closure using the posted detour route via the Queenston Road off-ramp, east on Queenston Road, south on Nash Road South, and westbound on King Street East.

Lane restrictions on the ramp have been in place since April when damage to the bridge was discovered.

The city says temporary repairs have allowed the off-ramp to remain partially open over the summer, but a full closure is needed for permanent repairs.

Work is expected to wrap up on, or before Dec. 20.
