Man shot dead in a downtown Tim Hortons parking lot, police say

Hamilton police are investigating a shooting death that happened at a downtown Tim Hortons parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

Paramedics say they responded around 2:50 p.m.

Hamilton police are investigating a shooting death that happened at a downtown Tim Hortons parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

Police said on Twitter that gunfire at King and Caroline streets resulted in the city's 13th homicide.

"There will be a heavy police presence as police investigate," the service said in a tweet. "Please stay out of the area."

Superintendent Dave Thompson from Hamilton Paramedic Services says the incident happened at 2:50 p.m., and paramedics responded with police to a report of a shooting. A man was pronounced dead on scene.

Later Tuesday afternoon, police spokesperson Jackie Penman said the deceased was a man in his 20s and that the police continue to look for a suspect. Penman said while the investigation is ongoing, it is not yet known if there was more than one suspect. They are asking anyone with video of the area around the time of the shooting to come forward. 

Parts of King Street remained closed later in the day.
