Help us find an iconic Hamilton image

We're getting a new page design and we'd like your help giving it a special look. Part of the design will a picture spanning the top of the page. We'd like that picture to be one taken by one of you — one of our readers.

We're redesigning our web page and giving readers the chance to supply the banner photography

We're getting a new web page design and we'd like your help giving it a special look.

Part of the design will be a picture spanning the top of the page. We'd like that picture to be one taken by one of you — one of our readers.

We have a prize pack of CBC goodies for the person who submits the photo chosen.

This retro canvas CBC bag will be part of the winner's prize pack, along with a CBC Hamilton hat and mug and more. (CBC)

But even if you don't win, we'll also show off the best submissions in an article on our site, since we're always keen to share the excellent work of the city's talented amateur photographers.

But be advised, we have some unique needs for this photo:

  • It needs to be iconic — something recognizable as Hamilton (Is it a building? The Escarpment? A skyline?)
  • It needs to be very — as in very — horizontal in order to fit the space available.
  • It needs to be lighter and less busy on the right hand side of the image.
  • It will need to display well not just on desktop computers but also on mobile phones so the preferred image needs to work at all those sizes.

The shape will be similar to the cover photo on a Facebook page. Here's an example from our page, basically a ratio of 8:1.

This example from our CBC Hamilton Facebook is the kind of shape we need for our new banner. (Adam Carter/CBC)

The submission deadline is Feb 24, at noon.

Send your submissions to hamilton@cbc.ca, and put 'Banner contest" in the subject line.

We'll announce a winner before the end of the month.

Note that the picture chosen will be the initial banner picture for the new web page, but that picture will likely change over time.
