Of the thousands of visitors to James Street North during the Supercrawl arts and music festival taking place Saturday, just one was unexpected. Prince Edward dropped in late Saturday afternoon but not to take in one of the many musical acts playing in front of the Tivoli Theatre.

The Queen's youngest son was visiting the armoury on James Street North.

The armoury was built in 1908 and has been classified as a Canadian heritage building. The armoury currently serves as the headquarters for the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry.

Prince Edward is in Hamilton to take part in the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. He was the reviewing officer for a rare military Trooping of the Colour ceremony at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum as well.

The prince and his wife Sophie, the countess of Wessex are in the middle of a Canadian tour that includes stops in Trenton, Toronto, St. Catharines and Midland, as well as a visit to Iqaluit.

Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Sophie were in Iqaluit Wednesday night. It was the first royal visit to Iqaluit in 10 years.
