A Canfield man has learned the hard way that trying to drag race a police cruiser is not a great idea.
Around 9 p.m. on Monday, a man stopped his car at the traffic light at Main Street and Cope Street. A Hamilton Police cruiser also happened to be stopped at the same light.
When the light turned green, the man slammed on the gas, squealing his tires as he pulled out of the intersection, police said.
He then sped up while turning southbound on Weir Street South, again squealing his tires, police said.
The vehicle was eventually pulled over at Weir and Central Avenue.
The 22-year-old driver from Canfield, Ont. was charged with stunt driving. His vehicle was towed and will be impounded for a week, police said.
