Woman in Hamilton punched in the face over her choice of team
A woman in Hamilton was assaulted in a suspected hate crime after being insulted for wearing a team Portugal jersey, Hamilton police said Thursday.
The attack took place June 16, when the suspect pulled up next to the victim, who was walking down the sidewalk at Bell and Central Avenues. He made derogatory remarks about her jersey then punched her in the face before driving away.
On June 16th Portugal lost 4-0 to Germany in a first round group match at the World Cup.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, around 6’ tall and 180 pounds, with tanned skin and dark short spikey hair. He was driving a car “similar to a black Mazda 3.”
