Simon, 47, died training for Iron Man race

Emergency crews have recovered the body of Hamilton athlete Peter Simon from a Binbrook Lake.

Simon, a 47 year old, who was training for an upcoming Iron Man race, was found Sunday on the shores of Lake Niapenco in the Binbrook Conservation Area.

"Peter passed on doing something that he loved," his family said in a statement.

The police marine unit had been searching for Simon since he disappeared on the night of June 8 while training.

Police were alerted just after 8 a.m. Sunday when a staff member on morning rounds reported seeing what he thought was the body of the missing swimmer in the waters close to one of the shorelines.

"Mr. Simon's family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support, and heartfelt thoughts over the past week," Hamilton police said in a statement.

The central Mountain resident's death isn't considered suspicious, police say.
