Hamilton police make arrest in first traffic fatality of 2013
Hamilton police have made an arrest in the Jan. 17 traffic collision that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old Hamilton woman, the first traffic fatality in the city in 2013.
Around 3:15 p.m. on the Jan. 17, a vehicle was travelling southbound on Paling Ave. near Britannia Ave. when it collided with the passenger side of a Pontiac Sunfire that was travelling westbound. The car then skidded onto the front lawn of a house in the southwest corner of the intersection.
The 55-year-old Hamilton woman in the Sunfire was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle and other victims were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, police have arrested a 27-year-old Hamilton man and charged him with careless driving, disobeying a stop sign and driving while under suspension.
