Facebook helped generate more attention for a weekend house party than its host had anticipated, causing it to erupt into a street fight, police say.

News of the party, planned at a house on Jacqueline Blvd. and Magenta Ct. Saturday night, was passed between friends online. It quickly attracted a large group of youths, many of whom didn't know the host.

A fight broke out between two groups of male youths and spilled out onto the street.

Police were called around 11:30 p.m. with reports that members of one of the groups had been badly beaten. The fight had broken up by the time police arrived.

One 18-year-old male victim was taken to hospital for a non-life-threatening facial injury.

Police are continuing to investigate.
