City officials say it could take days to clean up an Ancaster arena damaged by fire Monday.

Some programs have been relocated from the Morgan Firestone Arena at 385 Jerseyville Rd. W. to other locations after a small fire at the rear of the arena.

Firefighters arrived around 11 a.m. to find a fire that involved a roof overhang support post, Hamilton Emergency Services said in a statement. They quickly extinguished it.

The children on site for various day camps had already been evacuated. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at around $5,000 and the facility remained closed Monday. Program changes are as follows:

  • Pre-school day camps have been relocated to the Lions Outdoor Pool.
  • The junior camp has been relocated to the Ancaster Aquatics Centre.

Parents and guardians have been notified of the temporary relocation.

A few programs and rentals have been cancelled this evening. All groups who booked the facility have been notified.
