The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to the Hamilton Mountain to investigate an early morning house fire.

Just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, the Hamilton fire department was called to a fire at 646 West 5th Street.

Deputy Chief of Operations Dan Milovanovic said that crews arrived to a "single family dwelling, fully involved" with fire.

He said firefighters "immediately went to a defensive mode" to battle the fire.

Milovanovic confirmed that the house was unoccupied and that no injuries were reported.

He said they have yet to determine a cause. The fire marshal will be investigating due to the "large loss."
