Special weather statement: Hail and thunderstorms coming to Hamilton and nearby areas

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Burlington, Brant county, Hamilton, Haldimand and Norfolk counties, and Niagara as it expects thunderstorms, hail and strong winds on Sunday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Burlington, Brant county, Hamilton, Haldimand and Norfolk counties, and Niagara as it expects thunderstorms, hail and strong winds on Sunday.

The weather agency issued the statement at 8:29 a.m..

The statement said thunderstorms with pea to nickel-sized hail are possible.

"Isolated thunderstorms are expected today as a cold front moves through," reads the statement.

"The main threats will be hail of 1 to 2 cm and wind gusts up to 70 km/h."

The hourly forecast, as of 10 a.m., states Hamilton has a high chance of precipitation until 6 p.m.
