Residents in Hamilton and the surrounding area are being cautioned to protect their plants following a frost advisory issued by Environment Canada.

The advisory covers much of southwestern Ontario, including Brantford and Haldimand-Norfolk, and warns frost may damage crops.

"Patchy frost" is expected overnight and into Saturday morning as temperatures drop near or below freezing, says the weather authority, adding frost is likely Saturday night too.

"Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas," reads the advisory. "Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees."
